Signs That You Should See an Ear, Nose, & Throat Doctor

Your ears, nose, and throat are all connected to one another; therefore, issues in one area can affect the others. If you’re experiencing persistent or odd symptoms, it might be wise to consult an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) doctor. The office of Dr. Stephen Salzr, M.C. of Greenwich helps patients throughout the Greenwich and Stamford, CT area, as well as Westchester, NY. Here are some signs that you should schedule an appointment with our office:

  • Ear Pain: If you have recurring ear infections or chronic ear pain, it could be a sign of a more serious underlying issue. Contact our office for an appointment.
  • Hearing Issues: Sudden or gradual hearing loss should be evaluated by a knowledgeable professional to identify the cause and determine an appropriate treatment. You might also notice tinnitus, which is characterized by persistent buzzing or ringing in one or both ears.  Hearing issues should be investigated as soon as possible. Our team can help identify the problem and recommend treatment. If you need hearing aids, we can help you choose the model that best suits your needs.
  • Chronic Sinus Problems: Recurring sinus infections, chronic congestion, or sinus pain that doesn't respond to over-the-counter treatments could require professional intervention. Chronic congestion or sinus issues could be signs of a deviated septum, allergies, or other issues.
  • Sore Throat: If you have a sore throat that lasts more than a few days or if you’re starting to have difficulty swallowing, make an appointment with our ear, nose, and throat doctor.
  • Voice Changes: Developing hoarseness or other changes in your voice is not always an immediate sign of a problem, but if your symptoms persist for more than two weeks it could be a sign of problems with your vocal cords.
  • Swollen Lymph Nodes: Swollen lymph nodes in your neck that don't go away could be a sign of an infection or another health problem. You can check your lymph nodes by gently feeling for soft, round bumps in the sides of your neck, behind your head, or under your armpits. Swollen lymph nodes might feel like pea or grape-sized swelling; they might also be tender or painful to the touch.
  • Snoring or Sleep Apnea: If you or your partner notice excessive snoring or interrupted breathing while you sleep, it’s important to get the problem investigated as soon as possible. These could be symptoms of sleep apnea, which can be detrimental to your health. Our office can help diagnose the issue and make a plan for treatment.
  • Balance Problems: Issues with balance or dizziness can sometimes be related to inner ear problems and should be checked by a specialist.

If you’re noticing any of these symptoms, it’s important to take action. Early intervention can help ward off more serious health issues. Our ear, nose, and throat doctor can provide a thorough evaluation and work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan. Whether you have tonsil issues or you suspect that you need hearing aids, our experienced team is here to help. Contact us today to schedule an appointment; your health and well-being are worth it.
