FAQs About Hearing Aids & Hearing Loss

If you’ve noticed a change in your hearing or been diagnosed with a type of hearing loss, you probably have a lot of questions. While no treatment will restore your natural hearing, hearing aids are an effective solution to help make day-to-day life easier. Unfortunately, they are not a one-size-fits-all option, which means seeing one of our ear, nose, and throat doctors is vital to finding the right ones for your needs and lifestyle. If you’re interested in learning more, browse some of our FAQs below.

  • What type of hearing aid is best for me?

Our audiologist will work with you to ensure that you are completely satisfied with your hearing aid. We understand that certain types of hearing aids do not work well for everyone so that is why we offer a trial period to ensure that you are comfortable with your hearing aid.

  • I’m not sure if I should get hearing aids, what should I do?

If you suspect that you may have hearing loss, make an appointment with our audiologist and we can test your hearing. The test results will help us determine the cause of your hearing problems. In some cases, patients may need to be seen by one of our ear, nose, and throat doctors before potentially being fitted for hearing aids.

  • Will I need one or two hearing aids?

When inner ear damage occurs, it tends to affect both ears. We would fit you with hearing aids for both ears if that is the case. If you suffer from hearing loss in one ear and not the other, we can fit just one ear. We generally like to fit both ears because this will help improve your speech understanding of noise and the source and quality of the sounds.

  • What if I'm not sure how severe my hearing loss is?

There are different levels of hearing loss depending on certain factors that can affect your hearing. There are three common types of hearing loss: sensorineural hearing loss, conductive hearing loss, and mixed hearing loss.

  • How much would I expect to pay for hearing aids?

Typically depending on the type of hearing aid, level of hearing loss, and features selected for that hearing aid will help determine the cost.
